Orange County Government is committed to providing equal opportunity in employment and services to all individuals.Job DescriptionThis key position is responsible for enforcing Animal Services ordinances, codes, laws, resolutions, and regulations concerning the care and treatment of animals. Patrols Orange County—including incorporated areas—seeking stray, sick, injured, or deceased animals. Responds to complaints pertaining to animals and ensures the safety and welfare of citizens. Transports, handles, and shelters animals.Work is performed under the direction of the Sr. Animal Services Officer and is reviewed by observation, written reports, and the effectiveness of results achieved.Representative Duties / AssignmentsEnforces animal-related laws, ordinances, regulations; issues warnings or citations.Responds to calls regarding bites, cruelty, distress, nuisances, and sick/injured animals.Educates the public on animal care, ordinances, and humane treatment.Investigates complaints, gathers evidence, and prepares court cases.Captures and transports stray and injured animals.Performs kennel duties and medical treatments.Administers euthanasia and handles incineration.Uses animal restraint tools and safety equipment.Maintains documentation and communicates with internal and external stakeholders.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Three (3) years of experience working with the public resolving complaints or in enforcement‑related work.An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.Must complete required training and certifications within one (1) year of hire.State of Florida Incinerator Certification (Forty (40) hour Animal Control course); Sixteen (16) hour Euthanasia certification course; Sixteen (16) hour Chemical Capture course; Orange County Animal Services Officer training course.PreferencesBasic knowledge in animal care.Experience in written/oral communication.Salary InformationPay Grade: 014 – From $23.19 to $30.14 per hour.FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
