Revised: 02/13/19 Job Goal: The role of the library clerk is to assist the Librarian Media Specialist in encouraging and facilitating student success through the use of the library and its resources. The library clerk shall assist the librarian in the overall maintenance, documentation, and record keeping of the library material property. The library clerk will assist the Library Media Specialist to ensure the library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the campus and will assist campus principals and teachers in integration and use of instructional technology. Qualifications: Education/Certification: • High school Diploma or GED • Typing ability to meet or exceed 35 wpm • Previous clerical experience • Data Processing experience Major Responsibilities: • Handle routines for automated circulation of material, including online resources • Assist teachers and students in locating appropriate resources • Assist in gathering instructional materials for teachers that coincide with instructional plans • Organize library materials • Perform daily routine housekeeping duties • Receive, check, and process new materials as directed • Prepare bulletin boards, displays, and interest centers • Prepare and present story times at the elementary level as directed by media specialist • Assist the librarian/media specialist with skills, classes, or groups as appropriate • Assist teachers and pupils in the proper use and handling of equipment, including technology • Prepare books for the bindery • Perform other tasks when asked to do so by the librarian/media specialist, principal, or library coordinator Additional Requirements: • Ability to work in variable environmental conditions • Physical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more, light to moderate carrying up to 10 lbs. or more, talking, bending, kneeling, pulling, reaching, grasping, pushing, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, occasional running and the ability to move with agility • Ability to remain current in electronic resources, software processes and applications • Ability to adjust to a frequent change of tasks and occasionally perform tasks simultaneously • Ability to work as a team member • Ability to work with time pressure • Ability to work in a sometimes noisy/distracting environment • The ability to maintain emotional control under stress • The ability to understand and practice confidentiality Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Ability to communicate in oral and written form in English • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Knowledge of computer applications • Skill in the usage of computer, SmartBoard, document camera, and other devices • Ability to follow directives from the Principal or other campus leadership personnel General Employee Responsibilities: • Support and align work with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the district. • Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility. • Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning. • Share in the development and implementation of district success plans. • Actively participate in ongoing development to improve work quality and district contribution. • Model integrity, work ethic, and professionalism as a suitable example for LISD students.
