Youth Services Aide Under immediate supervision, performs routine duties related to the care, security, welfare, and custody of youth at the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center; performs laundry and housekeeping duties; provides back-up support for Youth Services Workers as required. Youth Services Aides have minimal direct contact with youth. Illustrative Examples of Work Assists in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of youth; assists in maintaining security by conducting and recording regular bedroom checks, ensuring doors and windows are locked and secure, observing and reporting youth behavior or suspicious activities, and detecting and confiscating contraband/or weapons; may perform personal and room searches; may be required to physically restrain youth under certain situations; observes for potential escapes; notifies management and control center of emergency situations. Performs minor medical duties, including dispensing medication and inspecting youth for health problems. Maintains professional interaction with youth while maintaining daily care; enforces facility rules and regulations; disciplines youth for infractions as necessary; responds to youth concerns. Makes verbal, written, and computerized reports of all activities occurring on shift; maintains daily logs and completes records and forms; maintains continuous internal communications with facility staff; utilizes intercom system, telephone system, and wireless communication systems; inputs/retrieves information via database. Performs laundry and light housekeeping duties including cleaning of community rooms to ensure the general upkeep and cleanliness of the facility; reports required maintenance. May perform or assist with admissions and discharge procedures including completing paperwork, showering, issuing and collecting clothes and linens, and conducting personal searches; may interview clients, juvenile court officers, legal guardians, and law enforcement personnel to obtain family and personal history, educational background, social skills, and medical conditions. Provides back up support for Youth Services Workers, intake, and control center staff; may transport youth as needed; escorts visitors and residents. Participates in monthly staff meetings. May transport youth outside of the facility as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of effective methods and techniques utilized in the care of youth. Knowledge of laundry procedures and products. Familiarity with electronic monitoring systems. Skill in the use of computers. Skill in interviewing, listening, and visual observation. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and procedures. Ability to secure and maintain the confidence of and maintain a sympathetic/understanding attitude toward youth. Ability to interact effectively with youth and families from diverse cultures and/or socio-economic status. Ability to enforce rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality. Ability to effectively deal with volatile or distraught youth. Ability to participate in physical restraint of hostile, aggressive, and combative youth. Ability to remain mentally alert to visually observe for suspicious activity, breaches in security, and safety issues. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and work in a stressful environment. Ability to keep accurate routine records and make verbal and written reports. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to recognize problems as they arise and take immediate and appropriate steps to intervene. Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment under stressful circumstances. Ability to perform routine laundry, housekeeping, and kitchen duties. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 lbs. Ability to participate in the physical restraint of hostile, aggressive, and combative youth. Ability to utilize office equipment to perform data entry and operate telephones, duress buttons, and intercoms. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents/legal guardians of youth, other staff, law enforcement personnel and other professionals involved with youth. Ability to foster a collaborative and professional work environment. Ability to visually identify objects in obscured light. Training and Experience Graduation from high school or equivalent, and Six months relevant experience in an institutional setting providing for the welfare/detention of youth, or Any equivalent combination of training and experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements Candidate is required to obtain Safe Crisis Management certification, or equivalent, within six months of hire and maintain annually. Candidate is required to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid and Medication Manager certification within six months of hire and maintain annually. Candidate must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and physical capacity testing to ensure candidate meets the essential physical requirements of the position. Candidate must pass a physical examination every three years. Candidate must pass a tuberculosis test annually. Candidate must pass a Criminal History Record Check through the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and a Child/Adult Record Check through the Iowa Department of Human Services as defined in the State of Iowa licensing and accreditation standards (IAC 441, Chapter 105). Annual checks are required. A drug screen is required prior to final offer of employment. A valid State of Iowa driver's license is required. Candidate must obtain a Class D Chauffeur's license within six months of hire and maintain annually. Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime outside of normal work hours with minimal advance notice as required. Overview CVP seeks Medical Support Assistants (MSA) to join our team in support of the Eastern Colorado VA Health Care System, Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center located at 1700 North Wheeling Street, Aurora, CO 80045. This is a full-time, remote position supporting the VISN 19 Office of Community Care (OCC). Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM local time, excluding federal holidays. As an Medical Support Assistant, you will coordinate care between VA and community providers, schedule appointments, and ensure Veterans receive timely and appropriate care. Responsibilities • Perform appointment scheduling, tracking, and pre- and post-appointment contacts in accordance with VHA Directive 1230, Outpatient Scheduling Processes and Procedures, and VHA Directive 1232, Consult Management • Coordinate and authorize Veteran care with community providers that the VA does not supply or cannot supply in a timely manner • Process community care consults via HealthShare Referral Manager (HSRM) and Provider Profile Management System (PPMS) and other systems as needed • Validate and update patient demographic information, including phone number, address, next of kin, emergency contact, and insurance capture • Ensure all necessary health and administrative information is processed and integrated into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) • Screen and receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner; answer the phone within 5 rings and follow appropriate telephone etiquette • Respond to telephone inquiries regarding the delivery of services • Maintain proficiency and daily use of VA software including CPRS, VistA, CTM, VetLink, HSRM, PPMS, and Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams • Open and close clinics daily and update no-shows within 24 hours of appointment • Monitor incoming and outgoing faxes and mail in accordance with HIPAA standards • Retrieve and respond to voicemail within 48 business hours • Complete an average minimum of 20 cases per day over a weekly period • Communicate with internal medical providers on rules and regulations for VA Community Care and advise on appropriate processes • Serve as a Patient Relations Representative; actively listen to feedback and patient concerns and resolve patient complaints and co-worker concerns in a tactful, professional manner • Work collaboratively with the Lead Scheduler and scheduling team to ensure all schedulers are competent and represent the VA in a positive, proactive manner • Notify supervisor and Lead MSA when automated systems are not performing as needed • Maintain computer and IT security; accept full responsibility for all transactions under personal badge, access, and verify codes • Protect electronic and printed files containing sensitive information from unauthorized release, loss, alteration, or deletion • Ensure all patients are identified with appropriate two patient identifiers per policy • Maintain zero breaches of privacy or confidentiality • Assess compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) and other regulatory program review criteria governing service Qualifications • Must be eligible to obtain a Public Trust government security clearance; US Citizenship required • Must be a resident of the United States and reside within 50 miles of the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center • High School Diploma or GED equivalent • Oral and written proficiency in English • Basic computer skills with daily proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute (must complete typing test) • Basic medical terminology knowledge • Minimum 6 months of customer service experience • No health or physical disability restrictions that would interfere with the performance of assigned duties • Prior VA or federal healthcare administrative experience is preferred Location • Remote.
