Police Officer Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a Campus Police Officer to help maintain a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role involves enforcing state laws and campus regulations, responding to routine and emergency situations, and ensuring the protection of campus property. The officer serves as a visible presence on campus, promoting safety and providing exceptional customer service. Duties include patrolling campus grounds, operating police vehicles and equipment, responding to alarms, writing reports, and assisting with investigations. The position may also involve overseeing part-time security staff and implementing security protocols. Requires a current certification or the ability to obtain certification as a campus police officer as mandated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for this position. The bonus will be paid in two installments: the first installment after successful completion of six (6) months of continuous employment and the remaining installment after successful completion of twelve (12) months of continuous employment. Employees must remain actively employed and in good standing at the time each payment is made to be eligible for the applicable installment. Additional terms and conditions may apply. Minimum Qualifications: • Considerable knowledge of statute enforcement, safety and security concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques • Working knowledge of customer service practices and principles • Skilled in operating police vehicles, communication equipment, alarm systems, and other types of law enforcement equipment • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct full time and part-time security staff as needed • Demonstrated ability to follow and give oral and written instructions effectively • Demonstrated ability to respond appropriately in both routine and emergency situations • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage a diverse population • Demonstrated ability to gather information, write accurate and factual reports, and explain or enforce policies, rules, and regulations • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement security policies and procedures • Must hold current certification or have the ability to obtain certification as a campus police officer as mandated by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). • Proficient in handling firearms and operating an emergency motor vehicle • Valid Virginia Driver's License.
