Legal Counsel - Construction Law Provide day to day counsel, guidance and support related to contracts/construction law and other legal matters for assigned Business Units and/or regions. Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities: • Provide legal advice and risk assessments across a broad range of legal matters related contracts/construction law. • Advise business partners on legal, contractual and risk matters impacting their areas of responsibility. • Analyze and summarize legal documents and complex business transactions and contracts. • Anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems involving the assigned Business Units. • Conduct and Compile research, maintain/update organized legal due diligence documents. • Review owner contracts and support Business Unit leaders in the bidding/negotiation process. • Review routine project-related agreements (e.g. BIM releases, crane swing agreements, title company deliverables, lender consents.). • Analyze change orders and waivers/releases prepared by others for legal risks. • Partner with lead counsel in the management and resolution of contested matters. • Manage litigation and corporate disclosures for RFQ/RFP responses. • Partner with Corporate Secretary regarding authorizing resolutions to accompany bids. • Maintain and utilize best practices with respect to contract terms. • Deliver legal training to the Business Unites on a variety of legal topics, including project specific requirements and ethics/compliance. • Develop and provide input to capture market trends and continuously improve processes. • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: • JD degree with a valid law license. • Minimum of 5 years' of experience with an emphasis on construction law, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. • Exercises independent judgement and discretion with ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action. • Self-starter, with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver high quality work on tight deadlines. • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and applicable legislation affecting the operations. • Adaptable and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in complex and changing environment. • Proven written and verbal communication abilities with emphasis on problem solving and negotiation, with ability to explain complex legal concepts to employees and staff at all levels. • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite, and various legal case management systems. • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contracts and insurance documents. • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with staff at all levels, both internal and external. • Ability to travel. Work Environment: • On a regular basis this job is performed in an office environment with usual office working conditions, free of disagreeable elements. • On an occasional basis, the employee may travel to and work at a job site location or client office location and be located in a trailer or other temporary structure. • The noise in this work environment may be moderately loud. Salary ranges for this position vary by location: • NYC: $125k - $155K • San Francisco: $125K - $155K • Boston: $125K - $155K • Connecticut: $125K - $155K • Seattle: $125K - $155K • Denver: $125K - $155K • New Jersey: $125K - $155K • Washington DC: $125K - $155K • San Diego: $125K - $155K • Los Angeles: $125K - $155K • Baltimore: $125K - $155K • Maine: $125K - $155K • Virginia: $115k - $140k • Chicago: $107K - 130K • Cleveland: $100K - $125K Actual compensation packages within that range are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific location. Operate a bucket near energized lines to remove branches and tree material. • Plans, coordinates, and assigns daily work for crew after receiving/interpreting orders from a General Foreperson/Line Clearance Supervisor. • Conducts field training/retraining, instructing crew on new or revised job units. • Enforces safe work practices, as experience, judgment, company policy, and OSHA specifies and conducts safety training in accordance with company policies and procedures. • Discusses with property owner/customer(s) issues such as obtaining access, power interruption, work to be done; refers controversial cases to the General Foreperson. • Obtains oral or written permission from property owners to perform required work. • Promotes and maintains good customer and public relations through effective completion of assigned work and the appropriate behavior of employees on the crew. • May be delegated the authority to investigate incident reports, damage claims, etc., and to settle minor damage claims. • Maintains accurate records, timesheets and reports related to the performance of the crew operation. • Furnishes General Foreperson and utility representative with reports of orders completed, units of work completed, crew time, minor damage repairs and distribution, etc. • Periodically furnishes reports on incidents, truck breakdowns, private property damage, new employee follow –up, etc. • Cooperates with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways. • Safeguards employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area. • Perform tree and bucket rescue. • Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc., to protect employees and safeguard the public from hazards. In emergency situations, determines action to be taken to eliminate hazards to life and property. • Inspects and makes or provides necessary repairs to tools, trucks, and other equipment. • Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at work location. • Responsible for DOT maintenance and inspection requirements on all required vehicles. • Keeps informed regarding new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and customer and company employee relations policies and practices, including EEO and AA policies. Requests repair or replacement, when necessary. • Performs other related work as assigned by superiors. Minimum Qualifications: • Requires the understanding of drawings and symbols representing lines, voltages, line equipment, etc. • Have the knowledge to identify tree and shrub species. • Must be able to walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material. • Must have excellent communication and leadership skills. • Must have organizational skills and be able to multi-task. • Must be capable of adjusting to field requirements and take independent action without close supervision. • Must be able to safely drive an approved company vehicle. • Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time. • Due to the capacity of existing equipment, the weight of the employee should not exceed approximately 300 pounds. • Must have no fear of heights. • Willing and able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, including holidays and weekends.
